Internships are an integral part of your training. We have a wealth of internship opportunities! The program director will work with you to determine which internships are best suited to your career goals. We are always developing new internships and are glad to target companies or industries of particular interest to our students.
All students are encouraged to do at least one internship. Many choose to do several internships in order to broaden their training.
Occasionally the internship sponsors are able to offer a stipend to our students, but the the majority of current internships are not paid.
Students receive college credit for the internships through Coped 484B, Occupational Work Experience in Bioscience. 1 unit of credit is awarded for 60 hours of unpaid work experience or 75 hours of paid work experience.
Each internship is unique: some students work one day a week at their site, for an entire semester, while other students may choose to work intensively for several weeks during the summer.
Typically a student is paired with a mentor and assists that person and receives training from them. Often the student is given a particular project or set of duties. Our internship mentors take their role seriously and have been excellent sources of training for our students.
